School Travel Plan

 Travel Plan Statement

SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School is a thriving and inclusive community located in the heart of Mitcham’s conservation area. Our families come from diverse cultures and traditions, making our school an exciting place to grow and learn. Grounded in Christian teaching, we see the Holy Spirit guiding us through our daily journey of faith.

We actively celebrate and promote active travel through a variety of programmes and events. These include annual Road Safety Weeks, Bike at playtime, Bikeability training for our pupils, balance bike training for children in the Early Years, the Junior Road Watch programme, and participation in the TfL Junior Citizenship programme. We also encourage the active use of public transport for school trips.

Staff members who travel the furthest distances are allocated a limited number of parking spaces, while many choose to cycle to school. Our school community is encouraged to walk, cycle, or use public transport whenever possible.

The school benefits from excellent public transport links, with several bus routes nearby and tram and train stations within a short walking distance. Local streets have restrictive parking measures in place, so families are urged to use active travel options for safer and healthier journeys.

Merton offers many cycle routes, and the quiet, residential streets surrounding the school provide a safe environment for cycling. By promoting active travel, we aim to support the wellbeing of our pupils, staff, and wider community, while caring for our environment.

The School Travel Plan links to Article 24 (Health and Health Services) of the UN Rights of the child which says:

Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and wellbeing so that children can stay healthy. Richer countries should help poorer countries achieve this.
