School Council and Pupil Leadership

At SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School, we believe in nurturing leadership qualities in our pupils and empowering them to play an active role in the school community. Our School Council provides various leadership opportunities and a platform for children to develop their skills, express their ideas, and contribute to meaningful school projects.

School Council: Amplifying Pupil Voice

Our School Council is a vibrant body of elected representatives from each class, providing an opportunity for students to have their voices heard. Every child at SS Peter and Paul has a right to contribute their ideas and opinions on issues that matter to them. The School Council meets regularly to discuss important topics that affect the school community, from improving the school environment to organising events and charity initiatives.

The aims of the School Council:

  • Promote student involvement in school decision-making.
  • Encourage responsibility and leadership among pupils.
  • Ensure the voices of all pupils are respected and considered.
  • Lead whole school projects that benefit the school and wider community.

Leading Whole School Projects

We believe that children thrive when given opportunities to lead. Our children take charge of a variety of whole school projects, allowing them to develop skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Recent projects have included:

  • Anti-bullying week: Anti-Bullying Week: In a powerful campaign, students took the lead in organising our annual Anti-Bullying Week, promoting kindness, inclusivity, and respect for others. They created posters, ran assemblies, and held workshops to raise awareness about the effects of bullying and how to prevent it.
  • Children’s Mental Health Week: Our pupils took a leading role in planning and running activities during Mental Health Week. They organised workshops on mindfulness, relaxation techniques, and coping strategies to support mental well-being.
  • Charity Fundraising: Pupils have organised fundraising events, including bake sales, non-uniform days, and sponsored activities to support local and global causes.
  • Community Engagement: Our students take pride in working on projects that connect with the local community, including working with care homes, organising food donations, and raising awareness about social issues.

These initiatives help build confidence and give pupils a sense of ownership over the school's direction.

Respecting Rights and Promoting Equality

At the heart of our leadership programme is the belief that every child’s voice matters. We foster a culture of respect, ensuring that every student feels valued and included, regardless of their background or ability. As a Bronze Award Rights Respecting School, we teach our pupils about their rights under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and encourage them to respect the rights of others.

By promoting pupil leadership, SS Peter and Paul Primary School is shaping confident, thoughtful, and engaged young people who will continue to lead with integrity, empathy, and respect throughout their lives.

Get Involved!

We encourage all students to participate in school leadership roles, whether through the School Council or by leading a school project. Speak to your teacher to learn more about how you can get involved in making a positive difference at SS Peter and Paul!

Let us continue working together to create a school community where every child has the opportunity to lead and where every voice is heard!
