Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium Strategy
The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided to schools in England to support the education and outcomes of disadvantaged pupils. It is intended to help schools address the barriers that can affect disadvantaged children’s attainment, progress, attendance, wellbeing and wider educational experiences.
At SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School, our Pupil Premium Strategy is designed to ensure that every child has the opportunity to Learn Together, Acheive Together, In Christ. We have high expectations for all our pupils and use our funding strategically to identify and overcome barriers to learning, improve outcomes and ensure that disadvantaged pupils have access to the opportunities and support they need to thrive.
Our approach is informed by the Department for Education (DfE) guidance and the evidence base provided by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF). We use a tiered approach, considering the individual needs of our pupils and focusing our resources across three broad areas: high-quality teaching, targeted academic support and wider strategies.
Our Tiered Approach
- High-Quality Teaching
We recognise that excellent classroom teaching has the greatest potential to improve outcomes for all pupils. We therefore prioritise investment in teaching and learning so that disadvantaged pupils benefit from consistently high-quality provision. This includes:
- High-quality professional development for teachers and support staff
- Evidence-informed approaches to teaching and learning
- Effective assessment and identification of pupils’ needs
- Strong early reading, writing and mathematics provision
- Supporting staff to develop expertise and provide appropriate challenge and support for every learner
- Targeted Academic Support
Where pupils require additional support, we provide carefully targeted interventions based on identified needs. This may include:
- Small-group and individual interventions
- Additional support in reading, writing and mathematics
- Targeted phonics and early reading support
- Additional opportunities to practise and consolidate learning
- Specialist support where appropriate, including speech, language and communication provision
- Wider Strategies
We understand that a child’s ability to learn and achieve can be influenced by factors beyond the classroom. Our strategy therefore also addresses wider barriers that may affect educational outcomes. This includes:
- Supporting attendance and punctuality and addressing barriers to regular school attendance
- Pastoral support to promote wellbeing, confidence and positive relationships
- Supporting behaviour, engagement and readiness to learn
- Providing access to enrichment, cultural and wider educational experiences such as trips and residential visits.
- Working in partnership with families and external agencies where appropriate
- Helping to ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent pupils from fully participating in school life
At SS Peter and Paul Primary, we carefully monitor the impact of our Pupil Premium strategy and adapt our provision in response to the needs of our pupils. Our aim is not only to improve academic outcomes, but to ensure that disadvantaged pupils develop the knowledge, confidence, resilience and aspirations they need to succeed.
