Oscar Romero Award
This is a detailed application which reflects a wide range of meaningful activities undertaken by staff and pupils at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Primary School.
The evidence provided for the Strategic strand demonstrates that Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is given a high profile by school leaders at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Primary School. It is pleasing to see that CST has been clearly prioritised within both the School Development Plan and the Religious Education Action Plan. The inclusion of CST in the staff training programme is commendable and supports staff understanding of its importance in the mission of Catholic education.
CST has been thoughtfully incorporated into the curriculum in a variety of ways. There are clear links within RE lessons, and it is encouraging to see how justice issues are explored through texts and topics across English, PSHE, History, and Geography. The curriculum overviews indicate that links to CST are well-planned and carefully sequenced, helping pupils understand that these principles extend beyond the RE curriculum and into all areas of life.
The school is involved in a broad range of practical projects that actively engage with the local and wider community. Your support of CAFOD, the Catholic Children’s Society, local food banks, and the provision of second-hand uniform supplies is particularly impactful. Raising the profile of Fairtrade Fortnight is also an excellent way to help children understand how everyday choices can promote social justice and dignity for all.
The self-evaluation comments throughout your application show a reflective and proactive leadership team that is clearly committed to deepening the role of CST in the life of the school. Your commitment to Catholic Social Teaching is evident and lays strong foundations for continued development.
Congratulations on achieving the Participator Level.
